Synopsis

The Primordial Core is one of the Seven Great Evil Dungeons and is considered nearly impossible to conquer. At its deepest point lives Swallow, the Original Monster and one of the most terrifying boss creatures in existence. The problem is that Swallow has little interest in acting terrifying at all: he mostly wants to sleep. While raiders keep invading his dungeon, his devoted homunculus maid Renee and the skeleton Patrick struggle to keep the place functioning and push their absurdly powerful master into behaving like a proper final boss.

Editorial note

The series flips the usual dungeon-raiding setup by placing the strongest monster at the center and making laziness, rather than weakness, his defining problem. Swallow can overwhelm most threats, so much of the fun comes from the gap between his apocalyptic reputation and his complete lack of motivation. Renee's intense devotion and Patrick's exhausted competence turn the Primordial Core into an eccentric workplace as much as a deadly dungeon.
