Synopsis
Years after Kira's death, Ryuk returns to the human world and gives the Death Note to Minoru Tanaka, an exceptionally intelligent student. Unlike Light Yagami, Minoru has no interest in using the notebook to kill. Instead, after carefully studying the rules and the modern world, he devises a plan to profit from the Death Note without writing a single name in it. His strategy rapidly draws the attention of governments, the media and Near, turning the notebook into the center of a global political and economic crisis.
The 2020 Death Note Special One-Shot revisits the series through a protagonist who rejects Kira's methods entirely. Minoru Tanaka treats the Death Note as an object with market value rather than a weapon, creating a story driven by strategy, economics, state power and loopholes in the notebook's rules. Ryuk remains the supernatural catalyst, while Near observes from the investigative side.

What it feels like
The 2020 one-shot is a strategic political thriller rather than a repeat of Light Yagami's killing spree. Visuals should focus on Minoru Tanaka, Ryuk, the black notebook, digital screens, money/auction symbolism and Near's surveillance presence.
